Frailea curvispina is a species of plant in the genus Frailea from the cactus family(Cactaceae).

description

Frailea curvispina grows solitary or rarely sprouting with cylindrical, gray-green bodies. The bodies reach heights of up to 5 centimeters with a diameter of 3 centimeters. The approximately 32 ribs are arranged vertically and divided into small humps. The oval areoles on it are initially yellow felted and later bare. The thorns stand close together at the apex, are bent and interwoven. There they are white to yellowish, below they are grayish brown. There is a central spine. The 14 radial spines are 4 to 6 millimeters long.

The yellow flowers are up to 3 centimeters long and can reach a diameter of up to 2.5 centimeters. The fruits are covered with white hair and long brown bristles. They are up to 2 centimeters long and have a diameter of 1 to 1.5 centimeters.

Distribution, systematics and endangerment

Frailea curvispina is widespread in Brazil in the state of Rio Grande do Sul . The first description was published in 1972 by Albert Frederik Hendrik Buining and Arnold J. Brederoo (1917-1999).

In the Red List of Threatened Species of IUCN is the species as " Endangered (EN) ," d. H. listed as endangered.
