Frailea mammifera is a species of plant in the genus Frailea from the cactus family(Cactaceae).

description

Frailea mammifera usually grows individually with almost spherical, shiny dark green bodies that only rarely sprout. The bodies reach heights of up to 3 centimeters with diameters of 1 to 1.5 centimeters. The mostly 17 ribs are divided into conspicuous rounded or tapering cusps, on the upper side of which are the areoles . The 2 to 4 protruding central spines are strong, brown and 2.5 to 3 millimeters long. The 18 to 20 white, thin radial spines are radiating. They are 1.5 to 2 millimeters long.

The yellow flowers are funnel-shaped. They are 2.5 inches long and reach the same diameter. The fruits have a diameter of up to 8 millimeters.

Distribution, systematics and endangerment

Frailea mammifera is distributed in Brazil in the state of Rio Grande do Sul and in Argentina in the province of Entre Ríos . The first description was published in 1972 by Albert Frederik Hendrik Buining and Arnold J. Brederoo (1917-1999).

In the Red List of Threatened Species of IUCN is the species as " Endangered (EN) ," d. H. listed as endangered.
