Frainc-Comtou language

Frainc-Comtou is a language that belongs to the Langues d'oïl , a group of Romance languages . It is spoken in Franche-Comté , Sundgau and the Swiss canton of Jura . There is a Germanic influence. It has the peculiarity that çh is used, which means the pronunciation of the sound as in ich . There are documents in this language from the 17th century. At the beginning of the 20th century the language almost disappeared. The linguist Colette Dondaine has published the Atlas linguistique et ethnographique de Franche-Comté .

In 2007 a French-Frainc-comtou dictionary was published. Article 42.2 of the constitution of the Swiss canton of Jura states that the state is responsible for the preservation of the dialect.
