The Mucoromycotina are a subdivision of mushrooms that was first described in 2007 and contains the core groups of the earlier yoke mushrooms .

features

They are saprobionic fungi or gall-forming, non-haustoric parasites or ecto- mycorrhizal species. The mycelium is branched and coenocytic when young . Sometimes walls (septa) are formed that contain microspores when they mature . Asexual reproduction takes place via sporangia, sporangioles or merosporangia, rarely via chlamydospores, arthrospores or blastospores. Sexual reproduction takes place through more or less round zygospores that are formed on suspensors.

Systematics

The Mucoromycotina comprise with the Mucorales the core group of the earlier yoke fungi. These are currently considered to be invalidly published taxons, and they are polyphyletic. In the current system of mushrooms , therefore, the yoke mushrooms were dissolved. According to Spatafora et al . (2016), the arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi form a subdivision (glomeromycotina) together with the 2 further subdivisions Mortierellomycotina and Mucoromycotina the department of Mucoromycota . However, this classification has not yet been generally recognized.
