François-Edouard Hasley (born May 11, 1825 in Sainte-Mère-Église , † August 7, 1888 in Cambrai ) was a French bishop .

Life

Hasley was canon at Rouen Cathedral and parish priest at Saint-Ouen there . In 1878 he became Bishop of Beauvais , in 1880 Archbishop of Avignon and in 1884 Archbishop of Cambrai . He received his episcopal ordination on September 21, 1878 in Rouen by Cardinal de Bonnechose .

As Archbishop of Avignon, Mgr. Hasley promoted the establishment of free schools and took an active part in the development of the Catholic faculty in Lyon. He visited the archdiocese twice. In Cambrai, too, he campaigned for the school system; In 1886 he published a small catechism and in 1887 reissued the large catechism. In 1886 the Pope appointed him papal assistant to the throne and Roman count.

Mgr. Hasley died - like his predecessor in the bishopric of Cambrai, Alfred Duquesnay - after a term of three years and two months. His funeral sermon was given by Bishop Germain von Coutances , who had also assisted in his episcopal ordination (Oraison funèbre. Lille: Desclée, 1888).
