François Bellot (born February 8, 1954 in Jemelle ) is a Belgian politician of the Mouvement Réformateur (MR). Bellot has been a parliamentarian for many years and has been Federal Minister for Mobility in the Wilmès government since the resignation of Jacqueline Galant (MR) . At the local level, he has been the Mayor of Rochefort since 1995 .

Life

François Bellot is a civil engineer ( ULg ), commercial engineer ( UCL ), licentiate in political science (UCL) and a graduate of the French management academy École nationale d'administration (ENA, Paris ). He then worked at the Ministry of Transport in the Walloon Region .

Bellot made his entry into politics in 1982 on the advice of Jean Gol (PRL). First he was a member of the Public Welfare Council in Rochefort . In 1995 he took over the office of mayor of the same municipality, which he still holds today , with the exception of an interlude from 1998 to 2001 when he was a member of the provincial college in the province of Namur .

In 2000 he was elected to the Chamber of Deputies before moving to the Senator in 2010 . There he sat before the special committee to investigate the railway accident at Buizingen . In the regional elections on May 25, 2014, he was finally elected to the Walloon Parliament and the Parliament of the French Community .

When, after the terrorist attacks in Brussels in March 2016, it became known that the European Commission had already pointed out security gaps in the area of Brussels-Zaventem Airport in 2011 and 2015 , and the Federal Mobility Minister Jacqueline Galant (MR) then resigned from Prime Minister Charles Michel (MR), François Bellot was sworn in as her successor on April 18, 2016.
