François Giguère

François Giguère (born June 24, 1963 in Sainte-Foy , Québec ) is a Canadian ice hockey official . Most recently, he served as general manager of the Colorado Avalanche from the National Hockey League .

Career

After Giguère had been involved in the financial sector for the Québec Nordiques from the National Hockey League since 1990 , the Canadian was promoted to Assistant General Manager of the Nordiques in 1995 . He also held this position when the franchise relocated to Denver , renamed the Colorado Avalanche , and won the Stanley Cup for the first time in the 1995/96 season . During the 2000/01 NHL season , Giguère was named vice president of the organization, and that season he won the Stanley Cup for the second time with his team.

At the beginning of the 2002/03 season Giguère left the club and worked as the assistant GM of the Dallas Stars before he was signed again by the Avalanche at the end of the 2005/06 season . On May 24, 2006, he was appointed the new Vice President and General Manager.

After three unsuccessful seasons in Colorado, François Giguère was released again on April 13, 2009 a few days after the last game of the regular season of the 2008/09 season . The Colorado Avalanche had their worst season this year since they moved from Québec . The club finished last in the Western Conference and landed in the league consisting of 30 teams only in 28th place. The successor to Giguère was Greg Sherman , who had been assistant GM of the franchise for seven years.
