François "Bitzi" Konter (born February 20, 1934 in Lasauvage ; † August 29, 2018 ) was a Luxembourg football player . He played for Chiers Rodange , RSC Anderlecht , RCC Molenbeek and ARA La Gantoise from 1950 to 1971 and for the Luxembourg national team from 1955 to 1969 . From 1971 to 1972 he was the coach of the Excelsior SC Virton .
Career
François Konter played for the first time in the first division of Luxembourg in 1950 with Chiers Rodange. 'Bitzi' remained loyal to this club until 1961, when he was brought into the squad by the Belgian RSC Anderlecht. In five seasons he was only used in 18 games, a disappointing experience for the Luxembourg national defender, who had to stand in line at Anderlecht. Nevertheless, he won the Belgian championship in 1961/62, 1963/64, 1964/65, 1965/66 and the cup competition in 1965. In 1966 he was brought into the first team by RCC Molenbeek. The defender joined La Gantoise a year later and retired after four more years in 1971.
For the Luxembourg national football team , he completed 24 games from 1955 to 1969, in which he remained goalless. He made his debut on September 30, 1956 against Austria , losing the game 7-0. One of the highlights of his long international career was the game against France on April 10, 1960 , in which Luxembourg won 5-3. Since counterattack has also played numerous internationals against B-selections from different countries in the course of his career, one comes up with 77 internationals and four goals when adding these games to the official appearances.
