François Xavier Ley

Francois Xavier Ley, 1911

François Xavier Ley (born April 3, 1863 in Rappoltsweiler ; † October 14, 1941 ibid) was an Alsatian master butcher and member of the first chamber of the state parliament of Alsace-Lorraine .

Francois Xavier Ley, who was a Catholic denomination, was the son of the butcher Sébastien Ley and his wife Marie Claire nee Beck. He married on April 28, 1891 in Sennheim Marie Louise Aurélie (born October 21, 1865 in Oberburnhaupt , † July 22, 1942 in Ribeauvillé). The marriage had four children.

He attended the schools in Rappoltsweiler and St-Dié . He did an apprenticeship as a butcher and spent the years of traveling in Germany, France and Switzerland before he took over his father's business in Rappoltsweiler in 1891.

From 1903 he was a member of the district assembly of Upper Alsace , from 1910 to 1911 of the regional committee . In 1902 he became an alderman in Rappoltsweiler and in 1906 an additional judge. He has been involved in the Colmar Chamber of Crafts since 1905 and was elected by it in 1911 as a member of the first chamber of the Landtag of the Reichsland Alsace-Lorraine. He was a member of the Center Party .

In 1897 he became the commandant of the fire brigade in Rappoltsweiler. In 1891 he became a founding member and vice-president of the Alsace-Lorraine Fire Brigade Association . From 1909 he led this association as president. On April 9, 1919, he was appointed by the new French authorities to inspecteur général des services d´incendie en Alsace et Lorraine (inspector general of the fire service in Alsace and Lorraine). After the joint administration of both German-speaking parts of the country was abolished in 1924, he became a fire brigade inspector in the Haut-Rhin department . In 1928 he became vice-president of the Fédération nationale des sapeurs-pomiers , the French national fire service association.
