Comtesse de Sabran

Françoise Eléonore Dejean de Manville, comtesse de Sabran (born March 3, 1749 in Paris , † February 27, 1827 in Paris) was a personality of the Paris salons . Among other things, she frequented Madame Vigée-Lebrun's salon .

The Comtesse de Sabran, widowed at an early age, enraptured her contemporaries by translating and reading Latin verses . Her correspondence with the Chevalier de Boufflers between 1778 and 1788 was published in 1875. She loved the Chevalier for twenty years before she finally married him.

The countess became famous for a terracotta and marble bust by Jean-Antoine Houdon , who modeled it in 1785 . The bust is one of the large portrait busts of the late 18th century and documents the transition from representative portraits to artistic motifs.
