Frances Moore Lappé (born February 10, 1944 in Pendleton , Oregon , USA ) is an activist against world hunger and its causes. She represents the concept of “food first” or food sovereignty .

Life

Frances Moore Lappé is the author of 15 books, including 1971 Diet for a Small Planet (German: Die Öko-Diet ), which was sold around 3 million times worldwide, and 12 myths about world hunger ( World Hunger: Twelve Myths ), which she co-authored with Joseph Collins. With the latter, she founded the Food First Institute (also known as the Institute for Food and Development Policy ) in 1975, which aims to inform the American public about the causes of world hunger. She is a member of the World Future Council .

Frances Moore Lappé has received a total of 17 honorary doctorates . In 1987 she received the " Alternative Nobel Prize " together with Joseph Collins and the Institute for Food and Development Policy .

Her daughter, Anna Lappé, supports Frances Moore Lappé in her fight against hunger.
