Frances Pappas

Frances Pappas (born June 27, 1964 in Toronto , Canada ) is a Canadian-Greek opera singer ( mezzo-soprano ).

Life

After completing her training at the University of Toronto , she continued her studies at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna with a grant from the Arts Council of Ontario . She had her first permanent engagement at the Stadttheater Gießen . She then performed as a freelance guest, including at the Wiener Festwochen , at the Theater an der Wien and at the Konzerthaus Wien . After a guest performance at the Nuremberg State Opera, where she sang Dorabella in Così fan tutte, she became a permanent member of the ensemble in Nuremberg . There she sang the title roles in La Cenerentola and in Hansel and Gretel . For the role of Mélisande in Pelléas et Mélisande , she was honored by the specialist magazine Opernwelt as the best young singer.

Frances Pappas made her debut with songs by Johannes Brahms in 2005 at Wigmore Hall in London . Further concert appearances with the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, the Orquestra Simfònica de Barcelona, ​​the Gewandhausorchester and the MDR radio choir followed. In 2008 she was appointed chamber singer by the Bavarian state government . Frances Pappas has been part of the Salzburg State Theater ensemble since the 2011/12 season .

Pappas is married to the actor Gero Nievelstein . The couple have two children.
