Frances Pappas
Frances Pappas (born June 27, 1964 in Toronto , Canada ) is a Canadian-Greek opera singer ( mezzo-soprano ).
Life
After completing her training at the University of Toronto , she continued her studies at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna with a grant from the Arts Council of Ontario . She had her first permanent engagement at the Stadttheater Gießen . She then performed as a freelance guest, including at the Wiener Festwochen , at the Theater an der Wien and at the Konzerthaus Wien . After a guest performance at the Nuremberg State Opera, where she sang Dorabella in Così fan tutte, she became a permanent member of the ensemble in Nuremberg . There she sang the title roles in La Cenerentola and in Hansel and Gretel . For the role of Mélisande in Pelléas et Mélisande , she was honored by the specialist magazine Opernwelt as the best young singer.
Frances Pappas made her debut with songs by Johannes Brahms in 2005 at Wigmore Hall in London . Further concert appearances with the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, the Orquestra Simfònica de Barcelona, the Gewandhausorchester and the MDR radio choir followed. In 2008 she was appointed chamber singer by the Bavarian state government . Frances Pappas has been part of the Salzburg State Theater ensemble since the 2011/12 season .
Pappas is married to the actor Gero Nievelstein . The couple have two children.
