The Frances River is an 8 km long river in the Canterbury region of the South Island of New Zealand .
geography
The Frances River is a glacial river that is formed by the outflow at the end of Frances Glacier . The river is nestled between the heights of Lambert Glacier in the northeast, the Cloudy Peak Range in the west and the Froude Range in the east. After about 8 km of the river, the Frances River and the McCoy Stream form the Clyde River by confluence.
A good 2 km southwest of its place of origin, the Frances River, together with the glacial waters of the Colin Cambell Glacier coming from the west, forms a small, 500 m long and up to 140 m wide glacial lake, on the southern side of which the Frances River continues.
