Francesc Labarta i Planas

Francesc Labarta i Planas (born August 12, 1883 in Barcelona ; † November 3, 1963 there ) was a Catalan painter , draftsman and art teacher .

Labarta was a student of his father Lluís Labarta i Grané before he entered the Llotja of Barcelona as a student in 1897 . He worked in the team of Lluís Domènech i Montaner , where he participated in the work in the “ Hospital de Sant Pau ”. He designed mosaics and designed numerous projects of applied art (wrought iron figures, mosaics, glass windows, graphics, wall hangings, carpets and damasks) in the town hall of Sants-Hostafrancs. He had also contributed major exhibits to the 1929 Barcelona World's Fair . At the same time he supported satirical magazines such as “Papitu” (1908–1937), “L'Esquella de la Torratxa”, “La Cuca Fera”, “Foyer” and others with illustrations under the pseudonym LATA. He also illustrated books and volumes of poetry. In 1910 he founded "Les Arts i els Artistes", in 1912 he became an art professor at the Llotja in Barcelona. Since 1918, Labarta devoted himself to easel painting, especially landscape painting, which embodied a sensitive objectivism. At the same time he restored murals and interiors. In 1933 he was appointed to the " Reial Acadèmia Catalana de Belles Arts de Sant Jordi ". Due to the civil war , he went to the Olot Art Academy in 1936 . After the war he returned to the Llotja in Barcelona as a lecturer. In his later phase he mainly restored wall paintings, stained glass windows and churches in and around Barcelona. He held individual exhibitions until 1945. Labarta wrote two books:
