Life

Francesco Ambrosoli comes from Como, Italy, where he was born in 1797. He was accepted into the Institute of Science and Art of Lombardy and was Professor of Literature and Aesthetics at the University of Pavia . In 1848 he became director of a grammar school in Lombardy. But he had to give up this position and his professorship because he was accused of being a patriot . He died in Milan in 1868.

Act

Constant von Wurzbach describes Ambrosoli on the basis of his works as a witty, well-educated and learned man. With his Manuale della lingua italiana , Wurzbach went on, he wrote a good manual, independently and without referring to others, that presented his subject clearly and precisely. Because he established himself with this work, he was commissioned to write Italian reading books for school. As a result, he wrote such a four-volume work for all four high school classes. In this work, too, he showed his skills as a teacher. He also wrote a work on Italian literature. This was also received positively. Apart from that, he was also active as a writer and translated other works. He showed himself so capable that the government of Austria asked him several times to do some work. He dealt specifically with Italian, but also with German and Greek literature, so he also wrote a Greek dictionary as a textbook.

In 1867 he was accepted as a corresponding member of the Accademia della Crusca .
