Francesco Balilla Pratella (born February 1, 1880 in Lugo di Romagna / Ravenna , † May 17, 1955 in Ravenna ) was an Italian musician and writer of Futurism .

Life

Pratella was accepted into the Liceo Musicale G.Rossini in Pesaro in 1899 and became a student of Pietro Mascagni . He came to opera through piano music and composed La sina d'Vergöun from 1905 to 1908 . In 1910 he joins the Futurists, which is expressed in the manifesto of the futuristic musicians . The corresponding technical manifesto followed in 1911, in which he advocated atonality and irregular rhythm in music. This writing is supplemented by the manifesto La distruzione della quadratura (The Destruction of the Quadrature). In his book, also published in 1912, he advocates turning away from the classic rules of harmony. In 1913, on a futuristic evening, he performed a piece of music based on these principles for the first time, which triggered violent audience reactions. In his most famous opera ( L'aviatore Dro ), which was written between 1913 and 1914, he integrated Russolo's loud noise. In 1916 his piece Canto di guerra was performed in Bologna . He dedicates the manifesto Il Futurismo e la guerra to the - welcomed - war . After writing music reviews in Lacerba since 1913, he founded the cultural magazine La Pié in 1920 together with the writers Beltramelli and Spallicci . In 1922 he took over the management of the magazine Il Pensiero Musicale . In addition to works for Anton Giulio Bragaglia and his Teatro degli indipendenti , he is increasingly concerned with folk music and also writes about it. From 1929 he directed the music school in Ravenna .
