Francesco Barsanti (* 1690 in Lucca , † 1770 in London ) was an Italian composer , oboist and flutist.

Life

Barsanti was originally supposed to start a scientific study in Padua , but he decided to devote himself entirely to music. In 1714 he moved to London, accompanied by Francesco Geminiani , where he played oboe and flute at the Italian opera. From 1735 he had a position in the aristocratic service in Scotland , where he also married. His best compositions, the Concerti grossi op. 3 and his overtures op. 4, date from this period . When he was back in London after 1743, the loss of his previous relationships made him increasingly poor. He earned his living as a violist at a London theater.
