Francesco Pasinetti (born June 1, 1911 in Venice , † April 2, 1949 in Rome ) was an Italian screenwriter and short film director .

Life

After graduating in literary studies as the first student of film history (with Professor Giuseppe Fiocci ), Pasinetti worked as a documentary filmmaker , film historian (with the publications "Storia del cinema" in 1939 and "Filmlexicon degli autore e delle opere" 1948), as a critic for numerous periodicals and from 1937 as a lecturer at the Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia , of which he was director from 1946. The retrospective during the Venice Film Festival (the first dedicated to the history of French film in 1938) owes its establishment to Pasinetti's idea. As a director of short films , he has been working since 1932, but was particularly active between 1940 and 1948 with a long series of films (many about his hometown). Thirty films made by Pasinetti about surgical interventions became particularly well-known, some of which he combined with Pietri Lamperti to make the feature film Il chirurgo opera , which was only shown in 1961.

In 1934 Pasinetti directed his only feature film , Il canale degli angeli , which received no special attention. Between 1936 and 1944, however, he wrote a large number of screenplays for directors such as Amleto Palermi , Luigi Chiarini and Giorgio Simonelli . Known as a jack of all trades, the filmmaker who is counted among the most important figures in cinematography of the 1930s and 1940s died at the age of only 37. Brother Pier Maria (* June 24, 1913, † July 8, 2006) was at his side in many of his work.

His documentary Piazza San Marco was awarded a silver ribbon in 1948 as the best work of its kind.

A foundation, a video festival in his hometown and a hall in the Palazzo del Cinema di Venezia are named after Pasinetti .
