Life

As the son and student of Olivio Sozzi and brother-in-law of Vito D'Anna , Francesco Sozzi was a member of a flourishing family business under the direction of his father. He continued the style of the late Baroque introduced by Olivio Sozzi to Palermo, which combines the Roman classicism of Sebastiano Conca with the Rococo of Corrado Giaquinto . In 1765, together with his father and Vito D'Anna, he painted the famous cycle of frescoes in the Assumption Chapel of the Basilica di Santa Maria Maggiore in Ispica, in which Olivio Sozzi was killed on October 31 of the same year by falling from a scaffolding.

Francesco's son Agatino Sozzi (1765–1837) became known as a painter of miniature portraits and still lifes.
