Francesco Tironi

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Francesco Tironi (* around 1745 , † around 1797 ) was a Venetian vedutist of the second half of the 18th century.

Life

Very little is known about the life of Tironis. Possibly he came from a family in Friuli . Only Giannantonio Moschini (1773-1840), who in 1806 described Tironi's works on the islands of the Venetian lagoon , noted that he, too young, had died only a few years earlier. After that, Tironi is not mentioned again until 1840, namely by Filippo De Boni, who determines the year of his death around 1800. Hermann Voss made the almost forgotten painter better known again when he published some of his vedute in book form in 1927-28. Two of these works were at von Liphart's in Munich at the time and were signed “FT”. Marina Stefani Mantovanelli dated Tironi's death on February 28, 1797. According to the necrology she discovered , the painter died at the age of 52.

Various vedute are attributed to Tironi, such as that of the Riva degli Schiavoni , the view of a crowd in front of San Zanipolo , then a vedute of the Isola Santa Maria della Grazia and a painting of the meeting of Pope Pius VI. with the Doge on San Giorgio in Alga . He made a total of 24 vedutas of the inhabited islands in the lagoon.
