Francis Blake (inventor)

Francis Blake (born December 25, 1850 in Needham (Massachusetts) , † January 19, 1913 in Weston (Massachusetts) ) was an American scientist, inventor and photographer.

Life

From 1866 to 1874 he worked on the United States Coast Survey (US coast survey agency) and the Darién Exploring Expedition . In 1878 he invented the Blake Transmitter carbon microphone . In April 1884 he bought his first camera and started photography.

In 1881 Blake was elected a member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences in Cambridge, Massachusetts .
