Karl Kahr (born September 11, 1914 in Fürstenfeld ; † May 13, 2007 in Graz ) was an Austrian SS-Hauptsturmführer and concentration camp doctor .

biography

Kahr completed a degree in medicine at the University of Graz and then worked as an assistant doctor at a Graz hospital. He obtained his doctorate in 1940. med. From summer 1940 Kahr belonged to the Waffen SS , where he rose to Hauptsturmführer in 1945. According to his own statements, Kahr then worked as a troop doctor and teacher at a training center for paramedics in Prague and then as a troop doctor in Brno , Breslau and Graz .

From November 1942 Kahr was a camp doctor in the Dachau concentration camp , where he headed the TBC station . In January 1944 Kahr was transferred to the Buchenwald concentration camp and from there immediately to the Dora labor camp. Subsequently, from May 1944, he was the successor to Heinrich Plaza on- site doctor in the Mittelbau-Dora concentration camp and also responsible for the Harzungen and Ellrich satellite camps . Kahr had a relatively good reputation among the prisoners, as did his deputy Alfred Kurzke . At the beginning of January 1945 he was transferred to the Groß-Rosen concentration camp .

After the end of the war, Kahr was interned by the Allies. Kahr testified as a witness on April 10, 1947 in the business and administrative main office of the SS and a few months later in the Dachau Dora trial .

Later Kahr worked as a doctor in Graz and then lived again in his hometown.
