Francis Geoffrey Jacobs

Sir Francis Geoffrey Jacobs (* 1939 ) is a British lawyer who was Advocate General at the Court of Justice of the European Communities from 1988 to 2006 .

Jacobs began his legal career as a barrister and eventually became a crown attorney . He then became a civil servant in the European Commission's Secretariat for Human Rights and Legal Secretary to Advocate General Jean-Pierre Warner . From 1974 to 1988 he was Professor of European Law at the University of London and from 1981 Director of the Center for European Law at King's College London . From October 7, 1988 to January 10, 2006 Jacobs was Advocate General at the European Court of Justice. In 2005 he was elected a member of the Privy Council and knighted. Jacobs is currently visiting professor at the College of Europe in Brussels .

Francis Geoffrey Jacobs has written several works on European law and founded and edited the Yearbook of European Law .
