Rolf Kuhrt

Rolf Kuhrt (born October 19, 1936 in Bergzow ) is a German painter , graphic artist and sculptor .

Life

After finishing school, Rolf Kuhrt began an apprenticeship as a chemical worker in 1950, which he broke off after a few months. Following his interests, he completed an apprenticeship as a script and poster painter in the same company , which he completed in 1954. After further training at the College of Applied Arts in Magdeburg , he studied from 1956 to 1962 at the University of Graphic and Book Art in Leipzig with Wolfgang Mattheuer , Albert Kapr and Bernhard Heisig, among others . During his studies he took study trips to Albania (1958), Bulgaria (1959) and Czechoslovakia (1961). From 1962 he was a member of the Association of Visual Artists of the GDR , whose chairman of the Leipzig District Association he was from 1978 to 1983.

He remained connected to the Leipzig University of Graphics and Book Art even after his studies. Until 1965 he was an aspirant at the university. After a subsequent freelance work, he began teaching at the university in 1968, from 1968 also as a lecturer and head of the graphics and illustration class. In 1980 he was appointed professor with artistic teaching activities, since 2001 Rolf Kuhrt has retired . His students included Michael Emig , Susann Hoch , Christa Jahr , Erich Kissing , Reinhard Minkewitz , Rainer Schade , Raimund Egbert-Giesen and Baldwin Zettl .

After graduating, he went on study trips to the Soviet Union (1970 and 1986) and Switzerland (1978), to France (1982) and Italy (1985).

Rolf Kuhrt lives and works in Kirch Rosin ( Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania ).

The bronze relief Aufbruch at the main entrance of the Karl Marx University in Leipzig was designed by Rolf Kuhrt together with Frank Ruddigkeit and Klaus Schwabe.
The Marx relief with a size of 14 × 7 × 3 m was inaugurated in 1974 and dismantled in 2006.
