Christa Jahr (born August 8, 1941 in Quedlinburg ) is a German illustrator and graphic artist .

Life

After graduating from high school in Bernburg (Saale) (today High School Carolinum Bernburg ) in 1959 , Christa Jahr studied at the technical school for librarians ( Deutsche Bücherei in Leipzig ) and passed the state examination in 1962. From 1962 to 1968 she worked as a librarian in Bernburg and Leipzig.

From 1968 to 1973 she studied at the traditional University of Graphics and Book Art (HGB) Leipzig with Werner Tübke , Hans Mayer-Foreyt , Wolfgang Mattheuer , Rolf Kuhrt and Karl-Georg Hirsch . Her diploma thesis from 1973 was incorporated into the book publication Ei der Tausend on stories from Des Knaben Wunderhorn and was awarded in 1974 as part of the most beautiful books of the GDR . Six more awards followed in this context.

Since 1973 she has been working as a freelance artist in Leipzig. From 1974 to 1990 she was a member of the Association of Visual Artists of the GDR and from 1990 to 1998 of the Association of Visual Artists Leipzig (BBKL). In the period 1986–2007, sculptural and ceramic works were also created. From 1987 to 1990 Christa Jahr taught at the HGB Leipzig in the evening academy . She lives and works in Leipzig.
