Hans Mayer-Foreyt

Hans Mayer-Foreyt (born February 10, 1916 in Brüx ; † December 11, 1981 in Leipzig ) was a German painter and graphic artist .

Life

Mayer-Foreyt attended the arts and crafts school in Reichenberg (Czechoslovakia) from 1931 to 1933 . From 1934 to 1937 he worked as a model draftsman in a carpet factory and then he did military service and imprisonment. From 1947 to 1951 he studied at the University of Graphic and Book Art in Leipzig with Kurt Massloff , Elisabeth Voigt , Walter Arnold and Hans Theo Richter . Since 1951 he has been teaching at this school and since 1954 has been a lecturer and department head for the basic course. From 1958 to 1979 he was a professor at the Leipzig School of Graphics and Book Art and, alongside Werner Tübke , Wolfgang Mattheuer and Bernhard Heisig, co-founder of the Leipzig School . Several study trips took him to the USSR, Bulgaria, Romania, Hungary, Germany and Belgium, among others. Mayer-Foreyt was a member of the Association of Fine Artists of the GDR .
