Francisco Franco de Sousa
Francisco Franco de Sousa (born October 9, 1885 in Funchal , Madeira , † February 15, 1955 in Lisbon ) was a Portuguese sculptor.
Franco studied art in Lisbon and Paris in the first decade of the 20th century. After spending the time of the First World War in Portugal, he traveled to Rome in 1919, where he mainly dealt with drawings , engravings and drypoint .
In the 20s he turned to sculpture. The monument to the explorer João Gonçalves Zarco in Funchal dates from this period . His best known work is the statue of Cristo-Rei in Almada .
