Francisco Merry y Colom

Francisco Merry y Colóm, 1st Conde de Beñomar (born May 1, 1829 in Seville , † January 4, 1900 in Rome ) was a Spanish diplomat .

Francisco Merry y Colom, Conde de Beñomar was a son of Dolores Colom and Antonio Merry, Prussian and Russian consul in Seville. Alfonso XII built the Condado de Beñomar for him in 1878. He began his diplomatic career in 1849 at the Spanish Embassy in Morocco with Mulai Abd ar-Rahman in Tangier , where he worked from 1860 to 1871.

From 1875 to 1888 he was the ambassador of Alfonso XII. and Alfonso XIII. of Spain with Wilhelm I at the Spanish Embassy in Berlin . Otto von Bismarck valued him as a negotiating partner. From 1893 to 1900 he was the ambassador of Alfonso XIII. of Spain with Umberto I of Italy .
