Francisco Villar García-Moreno

Francisco José Villar García-Moreno (born February 25, 1948 in Madrid ; † October 26, 2011 ibid) was a Spanish politician of the Partido Popular (PP).

Life

Villar studied medicine at the Universidade de Santiago de Compostela and then worked as a surgeon in the hospitals of Pontevedra , Lugo and Soria . From 1990 to 1996 he held various offices in the Xunta de Galicia , the government of the Spanish Autonomous Region of Galicia . Between 1996 and 1999 he was State Secretary at the Ministerio de Administraciones Públicas and then from 1999 to 2000 State Secretary for Sport. In 2000 he was appointed the first vice president of the government.

For the period after the Spanish parliamentary elections in 2004 , he was considered a candidate for a government post , which was prevented by the victory of the Partido Socialista Obrero Español (PSOE). He was a member of the Cortes Generales from 2004 to 2011.

He died on October 26, 2011 at the age of 63 after developing cancer .

For the parliamentary elections on November 20, 2011 , he was on list eleven of the PP, which would have guaranteed him a return to parliament. He was considered a close confidante of Mariano Rajoy , the top candidate of the Partido Popular.
