Francisco de la Maza

Francisco de la Maza (born May 7, 1913 in San Luis Potosí , † February 7, 1972 in Mexico City ) was a Mexican art historian and critic .

Life

De la Maza studied at the Faculty of Philosophy and Humanities of the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM), where she received a doctorate in history and humanities. He then taught at the Escuela Normal Superior de México (ENSM) and at the Faculty of Philosophy and Humanities at UNAM, where he also conducted research at the Instituto de Investigaciones Estéticas ( Research Institute for Aesthetics ). He founded the chair for colonial art at the faculty of philosophy and humanities at UNAM .

He dealt with literature, classical and religious art, lithography , the art of the 21st century and was considered an expert on New Hispanic art. He passed on his knowledge in numerous books and specialist articles as well as through lectures at home and abroad. Among other things, he was a member of the Academia de Artes .

De la Maza was in a relationship with Luz Goárres Arcautes .
