Francisque Bouillier

Francisque Bouillier (born July 12, 1813 in Lyon , † September 25, 1899 there ) was a French philosopher .

Life

Francisque Bouillier studied at the École normal supérieure in Paris from 1834 , became professor of philosophy in Orléans in 1837 , at the faculty of Lyon in 1839 and in 1842 won the prize awarded by the Académie des sciences morales et politiques for the best work on the history of Cartesianism . From 1849–64 he was dean of the faculty in Lyon. In 1856 he became president of the Lyon Academy. He also worked from 1864–67 and 1871–76 as general inspector of education and from 1867–70 as director of the École normal supérieure in Paris. In 1875 he became a member of the Académie des sciences morales et politiques and in 1889 its president.

Bouillier also translated Kant's work The Religion Within the Limits of Mere Reason (1842) and in association with Lortet Fichte's Instructions for a Blessed Life ( Méthode pour arriver à la vie bienheureuse , 1845) into French. In his writings he shows himself to be a strict adherent of psychological animism , as represented in Germany by Georg Ernst Stahl .
