Franco Biondi

Franco Biondi (* 1947 in Forlì , Romagna ( Italy )) is a German-speaking author who deals with the topic of biculturalism . He is considered an author whose work defies many conceptual assignments. All previous attempts to classify whether »guest workers«, »foreigners« or »migrant literature« remain problematic because it is becoming apparent that his work moves beyond the national and cultural barriers of Germany and Italy, although it is thematically developed in them.

Life

Biondi was born in Forlì in Romagna (Italy) in 1947 ; From 1956 to 1961 he was traveling with his parents in northern and central Italy as a showman, from 1961 to 1965 he lived again in Forlì, where he worked as a locksmith and electric welder. From September 1965 he lived in Germany. Until 1973 he was employed in factories in the Mainz area, among other things as an electric welder and chemical worker, mostly in piecework.

After obtaining secondary school leaving certificate in evening school in Mainz, he attended the Hessen College in Wiesbaden. The study of psychology in Frankfurt followed; until 1984 he worked in Rüsselsheim, Groß-Gerau and Mainz-Bischofsheim as a lecturer in courses for Italians in Germany to obtain the secondary school certificate.

He then completed his training in family therapy in Weinheim until 1986. Until 2010, he was employed in succession as the director of two socio-educational institutions, but also as a supervisor and training officer. Since 2000 he has also been working as a psychological psychotherapist and training consultant at the "praxis - Institute for Systemic Counseling" in Hanau. He is married in his second marriage, has one son; his wife is a child and youth psychotherapist.

He has been publishing literary texts since the 1970s, first in magazines and in anthologies of the work group Literature of the Working World , of which he was a member from 1974 to 1980. In 1979, one of his texts was also used in Hans A. Guttner's documentary film Almanya Almanya - Germania Germania . In 1980 he co-founded the series "Südwind-Gastarbeiterdeutsch" and 1982 "Südwind-Literatur". 1980 co-founder of the Polynational Literature and Art Association (PoLiKunst) and an active member until the association dissolved in 1987.

Honorary gift from the Bavarian Academy of Fine Arts (1984) and Adelbert von Chamisso Prize (together with Gino Chiellino ) in 1987. In 2005 he received a scholarship from the Robert Bosch Foundation to work on the novel Karussellkinder .

"Biondi is a writer of differences," writes Immacolata Amodeo in the "Critical Lexicon for Contemporary German Literature". People's existential situations in an intercultural context are the central subject of his literary analysis. Immacolata Amodeo rightly emphasizes that "his texts are characterized by labyrinthine, sometimes fragile, always complex writing, by idiosyncratic imagery and language appropriate to the topic."

Accordingly, Carmine Chiellino takes the view that the language in Biondi's work is consistently intercultural, “because it no longer adheres to the national pact between author and reader and therefore no longer relies on the agreed reproduction of the common cultural heritage and the author's presence and restrict readers. ”In this respect, the reader must be prepared“ that not everything within the cultural memory of the German language that reads as German will be revealed to him. ”

His texts explore language barriers. The author permanently embeds narrative and speech styles, bureaucratic language pods and introspective excursions in the narrative flow and incorporates different text levels and qualities in the literary discourse, so that a narrative emerges that - linguistically speaking - resembles hiking on a mountain formation.

In his essays he deals intensively with his position in the German language and culture. In a polemical argument with the literary critic and HR literary editor Karl Corino , he encounters an attitude that he defines as authoritative German and speaks out in favor of a plurality of languages.

In two further essays, "The foreigner lives in language" and "Literary language paths", the author explains that he has made a home in the German language. There he draws a line of trust-distrust and advocates constructive trust in the German language in order to bring one's own life story into the language and to get involved in it as a whole person. These core considerations are reflected in almost all previously published works with varying degrees of nuance.
