John Franklin "Frank" Baker (born March 13, 1886 in Trappe , Maryland , † June 28, 1963 ibid) was an American baseball player in Major League Baseball (MLB). His nickname was Home Run Baker .

biography

His career as a third baseman in the major league began in 1908 with the Philadelphia Athletics . With them he won the World Series three times in 1910, 1911 and 1913 . He earned his nickname Home Run Baker by a home run in Game 2 of the 1911 World Series against Rube Marquard and against Christy Mathewson in Game 3 of the series against the New York Giants . For the next three years he led the American League in home runs. In 1916 the Athletics sold him to the New York Yankees . Here he took part in two other World Series, but lost with his team in 1921 and 1922 against the Giants.

In 1956, Baker was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame by the Veterans Committee .
