Frank Beck

Frank Beck (born June 26, 1961 in Tauberbischofsheim ) is a former German fencer who won an Olympic silver medal with the foil team in 1984.

Life

As the son of the fencing trainer Emil Beck, Frank Beck was active at FC Tauberbischofsheim from an early age, but his father made sure that Frank took his lessons from other coaches from the start. Beck graduated from high school in 1982 at the Matthias-Grünewald-Gymnasium in Tauberbischofsheim . Frank Beck, who holds a doctorate in chemistry, has been managing director of a company for medical technology based in Weikersheim since 1998.

1980 Frank Beck won the German junior championship. At the 1981 World Cup , Frank Beck won his first international medal when he and Matthias Behr , Harald Hein and Mathias Gey received bronze behind the teams from the Soviet Union and Italy. At the 1983 World Cup in Vienna, Frank Beck tore the German team around after falling 4-0 down against France in the quarter-finals. After the 9-7 win, the team reached the semi-finals. Ultimately, the West German team (Frank Beck, Matthias Behr, Mathias Gey, Harald Hein, Klaus Reichert ) won the world championship title in the final against the team from the GDR. At the 1984 Olympic fencing tournament in Los Angeles , Beck only competed in the team. After he was quite successful in the preliminary round, he lost in the quarterfinals against the USA the only two skirmishes in a 9-2 victory. Therefore, he paused in the semi-finals against Austria. In the final against Italy Beck was back on the planche. He was able to win against Andrea Borella , but lost 5-0 to the individual Olympic champion Mauro Numa . Ultimately, the Italians won gold and Frank Beck, Matthias Behr, Mathias Gey, Harald Hein and Klaus Reichert received the silver medal.
