Novatus Rugambwa (born October 8, 1957 in Bukoba , Kagera region ) is a Tanzanian clergyman, Roman Catholic archbishop and diplomat of the Holy See .

Life

Novatus Rugambwa was born to Benedict Rugambwa and his wife Leocadia. He was in Bukoba on November 3, 1957 baptized . From 1964 to 1968 Rugambwa attended the Nyakatare Catholic Primary School in Bukoba and from 1968 to 1971 the preparatory seminar in Rutabo . He completed the first part of the Secondary School at St. Mary Minor Seminary in Rubya from 1972 to 1975 and the second part of the Secondary School at Itaga Minor Seminary in Tabora from 1976 to 1977 . In 1978 Novatus Rugambwa did the compulsory military service for all Tanzanian high school graduates .

From 1979 to 1981 Rugambwa studied philosophy at the Ntungamo Regional Major Seminary in Bukoba. He was then sent to Rome to continue his studies at the Pontifical Urban University , from which he graduated in 1984 with a bachelor's degree in Catholic theology . Novatus Rugambwa taught at St. Mary Minor Seminary in Rubya from 1984 to 1986 . On January 5, 1986, he was ordained a deacon in the Mater Misericordiae Cathedral by the Bishop of Bukoba, Nestorius Timanywa , and incardinated in the Bishopric of Bukoba . Rugambwa received on 6 July of the same year, the sacrament of Holy Orders . He then worked as an assistant priest in Nshamba . From 1987 to 1991 Novatus Rugambwa graduated from the Pontifical Diplomatic Academy in Rome. In addition, he was in 1991 with a dissertation on the subject of reform of the Roman Curia since the Second Vatican Council. In 1997 he moved to the Apostolic Nunciature in Pakistan . 2000 Rugambwa was Nuntiaturrat in the Apostolic nunciatures to the Cook Islands to Fiji , the Federated States of Micronesia , on Kiribati , the Marshall Islands , on Nauru , in New Zealand , on Palau , Samoa , Tonga and Vanuatu . On June 5, 2001, John Paul II awarded him the title of Honorary Prelate of His Holiness . Novatus Rugambwa became a Nunciature Councilor in Indonesia and East Timor in 2004 . On June 28, 2007 Pope Benedict XVI appointed him . to the undersecretary of the Pontifical Council for the Pastoral Care of Migrants and People on the Go .

On February 6, 2010, Pope Benedict XVI appointed him. the Titular Archbishop of Tagaria and ordered him to Apostolic Nuncio in Sao Tome and Principe . Benedict XVI. appointed him on February 20, 2010 as Apostolic Nuncio in Angola . He was ordained bishop by Cardinal Secretary of State Tarcisio Bertone SDB on March 18, 2010 in St. Peter's Basilica ; Co- consecrators were the Bishop of Acqui , Pier Giorgio Micchiardi , and the Bishop of Bukoba, Nestorius Timanywa.

On March 5, 2015, Pope Francis appointed him Apostolic Nuncio in Honduras . Pope Francis appointed him Apostolic Nuncio to New Zealand and Apostolic Delegate for the Pacific Ocean on March 29, 2019 . On May 25 of the same year he was also appointed Apostolic Nuncio to Fiji and Palau . On November 30, 2019, Pope Francis also appointed him Apostolic Nuncio in Tonga , Kiribati , Nauru and the Marshall Islands . On April 17, 2020, Francis also called him to be the Apostolic Nuncio in Samoa.
