Frank Hadow

Patrick Francis "Frank" Hadow (born January 24, 1855 in London , † June 29, 1946 in Bridgwater ) was an English tennis player and Wimbledon winner in 1878.

biography

Hadow was born in Regents Park, London, in 1855 and attended Harrow School . Later he owned a coffee plantation on Ceylon . While on vacation in England in 1878, the cricketer found out about the second edition of the Wimbledon Championships and decided to take part. He reached the final straight away, beating last year's winner Spencer Gore in three sets. After his victory he returned to Ceylon and did not take part in any tournament.

He later became known as a big game hunter in Africa. He died in Bridgwater in 1946 at the age of 91 .

Hadow is considered the inventor of praise .
