from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Frank Haun (born January 18, 1959 in Marburg , Hessen ) is a German manager .

Professional background

Frank Haun studied mechanical engineering at the Technical University of Darmstadt and graduated in 1986 with a degree in engineering . Haun then began his professional career as a project engineer for special test benches at Carl Schenck AG in Darmstadt. Before he was appointed to the Management Board in 1999, he held various management positions, including Director Powertrain Division , Managing Director Schenck Italy (Milan, Italy), Director Sales & Marketing, President Schenk Pegasus Corporation (Troy / Michigan, USA) , Chairman of the Management Board of Schenck Pegasus GmbH (Darmstadt / Püttlingen, Germany). In 2001 Frank Haun was appointed Chairman of the Board of Management of Carl Schenck AG and also to the Board of Management of Dürr AG (Zuffenhausen, Germany).

In 2003 Haun joined the arms company Krauss-Maffei Wegmann as managing director - since 2006 he has been chairman of the management board.

Initiator of the European arms consolidation

Frank Haun is considered to be the initiator of European consolidation in the arms industry. The KANT project (acronym from Krauss-Maffei Wegmann And Nexter Together) describes the European merger project in the land systems industry operated by KMW and the French armaments company Nexter Systems. “Our merger aims to consolidate demand by bundling forces on the industrial side to contribute, ”said Haun of the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung. The merger is intended to avoid duplication of research and development, bundle purchasing and marketing and ultimately lower costs - it is also considered to be a “dress rehearsal for the fundamental question of whether mergers are still possible in Europe's armaments industry”. The planning and construction of the European tank manufacturer has been going on for more than a year than three years - the specific plans of KMW and Nexter, however, only became public in 2014. Haun's goal is to include further partners - for example from Great Britain or Italy - in the Franco-German alliance in the medium term. To date, he has not given specific names of other candidates. Critics fear a loss of jobs and key technologies as well as a relaxation of the strict German arms export regulations as a result of the merger. On June 10, 2016, KMW and Nexter announced that the future holding company would be named KNDS (KMW and Nexter Defense Systems).

Memberships

Frank Haun is a member of the board of the BDSV (Federation of the German Security and Defense Industry) and holds, among other things, presidium and advisory board mandates in the support group of the German Army , at the German Society for Defense Technology (DWT), Commerzbank and European Strategy & Technology. Frank Haun has been a member of the Advisory Board of the Munich Security Conference since 2010 . As a member of the Board of Directors of the Atlantic Council, he is also committed to expanding transatlantic cooperation and international security.
