Frank Mouris

Frank Mouris (born September 6, 1944 in Key West , Florida ) is an American film director and animator .

Life

Mouris studied architecture at Harvard University , graphic design at Yale University, and feature film production at the American Film Institute . In 1966 he married Caroline Ahlfors who, like him, studied at AFI. Together they founded the film production company Frank Films in 1972 and produced and shot their first experimental short film, Frank Film , which recapitulates the life of Frank Mouris via two parallel soundtracks and image collages. Frank Film was awarded an Oscar in 1974 in the category Best Animated Short Film and in 1996 it was included in the National Film Registry as "particularly worth preserving" . He also received the Cristal d'Annecy in 1973 at the Festival d'Animation Annecy . With Frankly Caroline , the Mouris' 2000 transferred the concept from Frank Film to Caroline Mouris.

After winning the Oscar, other experimental animated films followed, including two documentaries in stop-motion , as well as, with the luck of a beginner , a feature film in 1986. They also animated commercials for Levi's Shirts (1980) and PETA and worked for Sesame Street , MTV, Nickelodeon and the like. a. as a freelancer.
