Athletic career

Young footballers

Rillich joined the children's team at FC Hansa Rostock in 1973 from LSG Elmenhorst. In 1975/76 he played for one season with the company sports association (BSG) Schiffahrt / Hafen Rostock , but then returned to FC Hansa and became a student at the children's and youth sports school in Rostock . In 1978 he was GDR champion with the youth team. As a junior player he was accepted into the GDR junior national team in 1979. He played his first international junior match on August 4, 1979 as part of the “ Youth Friendship Competition ” in Poland against North Vietnam (2-0). He was used in the position of left defender, on which he also had a regular place in the course of his later career. By 1981 Rillich completed a total of 26 international matches with the junior selection. In 1981 he began an apprenticeship as an electrical mechanic, which he completed in 1984.

GDR Oberliga player

For the 1980/81 season Rillich was accepted into the Hansa youth team, which played in the GDR youth league. There he developed as a left-back to a regular player, he played 22 of the 26 point games and scored two goals from defense. Just one year later, at the age of 18, he was nominated for the GDR Oberliga squad. He was used immediately on the 1st matchday on August 22, 1981 in the match 1. FC Magdeburg - Hansa Rostock (3-2) in his regular position. Until 1984 he was regularly in the standard line-up of the league team and had the most intense season of his career in 1983/84, when he played 20 games and scored three goals. From 1984, the 1.82 m tall Rillich began to struggle with weight problems. His betting rate dropped from 15 in 1984/85 to 11 in the 1985/86 season. When FC Hansa was relegated from the league after the 1985/86 season, Rillich fell victim to the squad streamlining and was delegated to BSG Schiffahrt / Hafen.

In the second-rate GDR league

The Schiffahrt / Hafen-BSG played in the 1986/87 season as a climber in the second-rate GDR league and was thus a direct league competitor of FC Hansa. Rillich was able to fight for a regular place at Schiffahrt / Hafen and only missed two of the 34 point games. At the end of the season he had to relegate with his team again and began the season 1987/88 in the third-rate district league Rostock . As early as November 1987 he was drafted for military service and assigned to the Frankfurt district league team of the Vorwärts Straussberg army sports community. After his discharge from the army, Rillich returned to BSG Schiffahrt / Hafen in May 1989, which meanwhile played in the GDR league again.

Champion and cup winner

At the beginning of 1990, FC Hansa brought Rillich back to its league team after several defensive players were absent due to injuries. Meanwhile back with normal weight, he found his way back to the top league without difficulty and played eleven of the remaining 13 point games. In 1990/91 the GDR-Oberliga went into its last season due to the German reunification , the FC Hansa nominated Rillich again as his defender. He was back in defense in the first half of the season, but now mostly on the right side. In the second half of the season he lost his regular place to Mike Werner, who was eight years his junior . Nevertheless, Rillich still came to 19 point games and was thus also significantly involved in the Rostock championship win. In addition, FC Hansa also won the 1991 Cup with a 1-0 win over FC Stahl from Eisenhüttenstadt. Rillich was in the final on June 2, 1991 from the 74th minute. It was also his last competitive game for FC Hansa, after which he ended his career as a professional footballer. In his seven seasons for Hansa Rostock, he had played 112 league games in which he scored four goals. He was also used in 13 cup games in which he scored another goal.

As a recreational footballer, he played for LSG Elmenhorst from 1991, which he helped to advance to the then sixth class Rostock district league after just one year. In 2011 Rillich played for the traditional team of FC Hansa Rostock.
