Frank Schweikert

Frank Schweikert (* 1963 in Schramberg in the Rottweil district ) is a German journalist and environmental activist. He is active in environmental communication and specializes in the marine environment . Its aim is to communicate the effects of climate change on the marine ecosystem through continuous monitoring and reporting.

Life

Schweikert worked as a journalist for various media , including as assistant to Peter Stockinger at SWF3 in Baden-Baden and at Radio Andernach , a troop support station for the German armed forces for psychological defense. He studied biology in Stuttgart and Munich.

In 1992 he was the initiator of the “Aldebaran”, a sailing ship used for marine research and media work for the seas and oceans.

In 2005 he started a maritime junior competition with the marine competition “Research at Sea”. From 2007 to 2009, together with well-known marine scientists, he documented the consequences of climate change off the Central American coast in Belize (project “Sinking Paradise”). From 2008 to 2013, with the support of the Dräger and ZEIT foundations, he initiated the international ocean conference series “More than water - oceans and global responsibility”. Schweikert initiated the Hamburg Climate Week in 2009 .

Supported by the “boot” trade fair in Düsseldorf, he and the “Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation” curated the “love your ocean” sustainability initiative at the boot Düsseldorf trade fair with a marine symposium organized by Prince Albert II by Monaco (2017) and Klaus Töpfer (2016).

Committee activities

Schweikert is, together with the Hamburg entrepreneur Frank Otto, founder of the German Marine Foundation (2015), founding member and board member of the Federal Association of Marine Garbage (since 2013), deputy director of the German Society for Marine Research eV, Hamburg (since 2013).
