Peter Stockinger (journalist)

Hans Peter Stockinger (* 1938 in Stuttgart ) is a German journalist .

life and work

Stockinger initially worked as a bookseller and dock worker and as an editor for various daily newspapers.

In 1970 he began his career in the radio division of Südwestfunk in Baden-Baden .

After he was a member of the planning committee of the then director Helmut Hammerschmidt in 1974 , he himself took over the management of the pop wave SWF3, which was launched in 1975, and was the only program manager of the program from the first to the last day of broadcasting in 1998. His predecessor and pioneer for music of the younger generation in the SWF was Walther Krause with the youth magazine Pop Shop .

After finishing his work for SWF3, he did not take up an adequate position in the media sector. He is a juror for the German Radio Prize and occasionally works as a critic and coach for radio and TV programs.

Numerous celebrities, such as Frank Plasberg , Claus Kleber , Christine Westermann and Elke Heidenreich , who had worked at SWF3 for a time, repeatedly publicly refer to Peter Stockinger as a kind of “foster father” or “journalistic teacher”. Numerous legends became known about his leadership style, in which he set high standards for his employees.

On September 5, 2013 he was awarded the German Radio Prize for his life's work.

Anecdotes

  • His internal nicknames "König Rotbart" and "Stock" became known.
  • The former SWF3 presenter Elmar Hörig spoke of the fact that he allegedly always papered his toilet with the numerous so-called "Blue Letters" Stockinger's.
  • Peter Stockinger himself described Elmar Hörig in a video interview in 2018 as a “genius”. When Elmar Hörig was kicked out of the SWF3 channel on March 22, 1999, Stockinger said: “I was no longer responsible”. With regard to the “Blue Letters” to Elmar Hörig, Stockinger said that it was “railway letters” because of Hörig's linguistic lapse.
