Frank Ueberschaer

Frank Ueberschaer (* 1972 in Cologne ) is a German Protestant theologian and Old Testament scholar .

Life

He studied Protestant theology and Jewish studies in Wuppertal , Heidelberg , Jerusalem and Bochum . He did his doctorate in Wuppertal in 2007 on the concept of education in the book Ben Sira and then worked as a pastor in Germany and Switzerland. From 2010 to 2016 he was senior assistant at the Theological Faculty in Zurich and completed his habilitation on the text and literary history of 1 Kings 11-14.

His research interests are the history of Israel, iconography of the ancient Near East, royalty in ancient Israel and the ancient Near East, wisdom in Israel and the ancient Near East, Ben Sira / Jesus Sirach, text and literary history, 1–2 kings and legal thought in ancient Israel and in Ancient Orient. Since 2014 he has been teaching as a junior professor and since 2019 as a professor of the Old Testament at the theological faculty of the University of Halle-Wittenberg . He has been married to New Testament scholar Nadine Ueberschaer since 2013 .
