Sir Frank Mortimer Maglinne Worrell (born August 1, 1924 in St Michael , Barbados , † March 13, 1967 in Kingston , Jamaica ) was a West Indian cricketer who was voted one of the five Wisden Cricketers of the Year in 1951.

Life

Between 1948 and 1963, Frank Worrell had 51 encounters in Test Cricket for the West Indies team and scored a total of 3,860 runs (49.48 runs per wicket). He was the first Afro-Caribbean captain of the West Indies cricket team. He was captain in 15 tests. Worrell had his first test run in February 1948 against England in Port of Spain . The last use in a test had Worrell against England in London in August 1963. After he had ended his active career, Frank Worrell was senator in Jamaica, where he emigrated in 1947. In 1964, Frank Worrell was knighted for his services to cricket . On March 13, 1967, at the age of 42, he died of leukemia .
