Frank Zimmermann (politician)

Frank Zimmermann (born May 9, 1957 in Kiel ) is a German politician ( SPD ) and a member of the Berlin House of Representatives .

Life

After completing his Abitur in 1976 at the Ernst-Barlach-Gymnasium in Kiel- Steenbek-Projensdorf , Frank Zimmermann studied law and political science at the Free University of Berlin .

After passing the second state examination in law in 1990, he worked as a research assistant for the parliamentary group of the SPD until 1995 . In 1995 he was employed as head of department in the Thuringian state representation in Berlin and then worked from 1996 to 1997 as press spokesman for the Senate Department for Finance . From 1998 to 1999 he took on the position of press spokesman for the regional association of the Berlin SPD. In 2000/01 he moved back to the Senate Department for Finance, this time as head of the science, research and culture working group.

Frank Zimmermann joined the SPD in Berlin in 1986. He has been a member of the Berlin House of Representatives since November 2001 and was directly elected to parliament through the constituency of Tempelhof-Schöneberg 5 . In his function as a member of the Committee for Internal Affairs, Security and Order, the Committee for European and Federal Affairs, Media, Berlin-Brandenburg and the special committee “ Restitution ”.

In the 15th electoral term (2001 to 2006) he was chairman of the “ Bankgesellschaft Parliamentary Committee of Inquiry ” (PUA). This should shed light on the Berlin banking scandal and highlight responsibilities. Zimmermann has represented the SPD on the federal level on the board of the European Movement Germany since 2010 .
