Frankfurt Recess
The Frankfurt Recess (for composition script or book) is a declaration drafted by Philipp Melanchthon and edited by his student Ulrich Sitzinger , in which several German princes committed themselves to the Augsburg Confession and its apology in 1558 . In this declaration they also spoke out in a mediating tone on the internal church disputes of the Protestants.
The signatories were:
- Elector Ottheinrich of the Palatinate
- Duke August of Saxony
- Margrave Joachim II of Brandenburg
- Count Palatine Wolfgang von Pfalz-Zweibrücken
- Duke Christoph of Württemberg
- Landgrave Philipp of Hesse
Duke Johann Friedrich von Sachsen had Matthias Flacius counter the Frankfurt Recess with the Confutation Book .
