Franklin is a city in Warren County , Ohio , United States . The population was 11,396 at the 2000 census .
history
Franklin was founded in 1796 by General William C. Schenck and named after Benjamin Franklin . As early as 1802, when Ohio was not yet a separate state, but part of the Northwest Territory , a post office was opened here. John NC Schenck, the general's brother, became postmaster. The wooden post office, built in 1805, has been preserved to this day, but was rebuilt in another location in the city.
Robert C. Schenck was born in Franklin on October 4, 1809. He became an Ohio State MP in the US House of Representatives in 1843 and was re-elected several times. During the civil war he became a brigadier general. Robert Schenck died in 1890.
Franklin became an independent parish in 1814 and a city in 1951.
