Frans Van Leemputten
Frans Van Leemputten (born December 29, 1850 in Werchter , † November 26, 1914 in Antwerp ) was a Belgian animal painter. He was the younger brother of the painter Cornelis Van Leemputten (1841–1902). Her father, Jan Frans Leemputten, ran a workshop for painting renovation in Brussels.
Leemputten studied from 1865 at the Académie royale des Beaux-Arts de Bruxelles with Paul Lauters (1806-1875). Then he became a student of Constantin Meunier (1831–1905) and the Dutch landscape painter Paul Gabriël (1828–1903), whom he had met during his training in Brussels. Following Gabriël's advice, he occupied himself with outdoor painting .
He made his debut in 1876 in the “La Chrysalide” salon and has since devoted himself almost exclusively to scenes from rural life.
In 1883, Leemputten became an active member of the "L'Essor" group. He also joined the drawing club “La Patte de Dindon”. In 1891 he took over the chair from Charles Verlat at the Antwerp Academy.
