The French University in Armenia (L'Université française en Arménie, abbr .: UFAR) is a university in Yerevan , Armenia .

history

On November 4, 1995, Armenia and France signed an agreement on cultural, scientific and technical cooperation. On November 23, 1998, a protocol was signed between the Ministry of Education and Science RA and the French Embassy in Armenia. “Based on the need for innovation in the educational system and with the desire to benefit from extensive experience in the implementation of higher education and vocational training programs”, the Government of Armenia decided to participate in the establishment of the French University in Armenia Foundation . The university was founded in 2000. The first cooperation agreements were signed on February 15th - including with Jean Moulin Lyon 3 .

construction

UFAR, which is a foundation under Armenian law, is supported by the Government of Armenia. Many of the teaching staff are well-known professionals or members of the government. The Chairman of the Board of Trustees is the Secretary of the National Security Council of Armenia, which is also one of the co-founders of UFAR.

The university is based on the pedagogical principle of awarding two state diplomas (French license and master, and Armenian bachelor and master ). The Armenian universities are in the transition phase of the Bologna Process . The Bachelor's degree takes four years and the Magister's two years. The university with approx. 1,000 students aims to train highly qualified specialists according to the new market economy requirements of the Armenian labor market as well as those of the Caucasian economic area. The young graduates of UFAR apply their knowledge to the development of Armenia as well as to the development of the country's relations between France and the other European countries.

In contrast to the other institutions that award a French diploma, such as the University in Cairo , which only has a Vice-Rector from France, or the Francophone Computer Science School in Hanoi , it is mandatory for UFAR - according to its statutes - to appoint the Rector and to employ the Secretary General from France.

UFAR offers three courses in the fields of law, marketing and management. The university awards bachelor's degrees in the fields of law, business administration (management) and international commercial law, marketing, trade, finance and control; Since 2010, the one-year master’s course with the qualification “Cultural Communication, Tourism and Management” has been offered on behalf of the RA.

French language skills are not compulsory for the entrance exams. In addition to general and vocational disciplines, students are offered intensive courses in French. The knowledge acquired is then checked using an internationally recognized test. The continuation of the study depends on the test result. This means that around 85% of students who did not speak French before studying at UFAR are able to continue their studies in French from the 3rd year of study. Thanks to the teaching staff at the Universities of Jean Moulin Lyon 3 and Toulouse 1 , from the 3rd year of study, 20% of the bachelor's degree and 50% of the master's degree are in French.

After completing a compulsory internship in France, Belgium or Armenia, the students submit a written report, which is then defended orally. This will test your knowledge of French in written expression and prove your skills in writing or presenting a thesis.

The advantages of this university, which cooperates with Armenian and French organizations and with French municipal self-government bodies, are: entrance exams on a competitive basis, Franco-Armenian teaching staff, the essential role of the Armenian diaspora and the institutional partners.

Tuition fees are set according to the standard of living in Armenia. The UFAR awards scholarships to the best female students, through which the tuition fees can be paid in full or in part. Thanks to private donors, donors and organizations, social grants are also awarded.

The university is a member of the Agence universitaire de la Francophonie (AUF).
