Franz Adolf Hofmann

Franz Adolf Hofmann (born June 14, 1843 in Munich , † September 26, 1920 in Gichkröttendorf ) was a German medic.

Life

Hofmann studied medicine at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich and became a member of the Corps Suevia Munich . In Munich he was awarded a Dr. med. PhD. After working at the physical institute for several years, he qualified as a professor in 1872 in hygiene. In the same year he was given an extraordinary professorship at the University of Leipzig , which made him head of the laboratory for pathological chemistry. In 1878 he became a full professor of pathological chemistry and experimental hygiene and director of the hygienic institute. As a representative of the Leipzig University, he was a member of the First Chamber of the Saxon State Parliament in 1879/80 . The Secret Medical Council and Ministerial Director of the Reich Health Office also participated in the organizational tasks of the Leipzig University. In the years 1884/85, 1889/90, 1893.94, 1899/1900, 1902/03 and 1911/12 he was dean of the medical faculty and 1888/89 rector. After retirement, he retired into private life.

Hofmann was the founder of the Journal of Biology , the Archives of Hygiene and the Quarterly Public Health . He also published some medical works.
