Franz Anton Baumann
Franz Anton Baumann (also: Ferenc Antal Paumon ; * 1704 in Vienna ; † May 28, 1750 in Pécs ) was an Austrian church musician and composer .
Baumann worked for ten years as Kapellmeister at the Belgrade Cathedral, where his superior was Bishop Franz Anton Engl Graf von Wagrain . After the city fell to Turkey through the Peace of Belgrade in 1739, he returned to Vienna, where he was active as a choir singer at St. Stephen's Cathedral . In 1741 the new bishop of Fünfkirchen (Pécs), Sigismund Berényi , brought him to the cathedral of the city as conductor . We have recorded performances of a Requiem by Baumann in 1743 and a mass by another member of the cathedral chapel, Georg Svoboda , at the same time. In 1746 a seminar was founded, from which more musicians of the cathedral orchestra emerged.
In addition to the requiem mentioned above, Baumann also has a mass and the offerings Eja sanati fidibus and Corpus Christi in the music archive of the Fünfkirchen Cathedral.
